Arlington, VA (April 16, 2015) – The Arlington Partnership for Affordable Housing (APAH) announced its 2015 Affordable Housing Honorees on April 15, 2015.
“In 2015 we are recognizing Bill Fogarty, an Arlington resident and a shareholder at the law firm of Walsh, Colucci, Lubeley & Walsh, for his 20-year commitment to APAH and the Arlington community. Bill’s leadership helped APAH to grow into an award-winning nonprofit developer providing over 1,200 units of housing for low income households. Bill is an active volunteer and community leader, having chaired several Arlington Public Schools Committees, as former Chair of the Walter T. McCarthy Law Library, an elder in the Unitarian Universalist Church of Arlington, and as a 15-year Arlington Soccer Association Coach and ’2011 Coach of the Year’,” said Nina Janopaul, President/CEO of APAH.
“APAH is honoring Mark Silverwood, President and CEO of Silverwood Companies, affiliated real estate development and management companies. Mark was an early partner with Arlington County on committed affordable housing development and recognized the rental needs of families by creating ‘bump outs’ to increase the number of bedrooms during apartment renovation, “ said Janopaul. “Mark is very active in the Arlington community including being a member of the Arlington Free Clinic’s Board since 2004 and starting Arlington’s Future Scholarship in 2004 to award to two renewable scholarships to students who live in affordable housing. “
“It is a great honor to receive this award from APAH,” said Bill Fogarty. “I have watched APAH grow from a small nonprofit to an innovative, efficient organization that speaks for the needs of low income Arlingtonians and provides quality, stable housing for over 2500 Arlington residents. “
“We believe in building strong, vibrant communities that meet the needs of a mix of incomes and family sizes,” said Mark Silverwood. “APAH’s affordable housing provides the essential platform for individuals and families to grow and thrive. I am proud to support APAH’s work and to provide opportunity and wellness for Arlington residents.”
The honorees were introduced by APAH’s 2014 Affordable Housing Honorees, Retired Virginia Senator Mary Margaret Whipple and Brian Coulter, Managing Partner, The JBG Companies at the April 15 event.
The Affordable Housing Honorees will be recognized at APAH’s Annual Fundraiser Celebration, October 6, 2015, at the Clarendon Ballroom. The Celebration is a once-a-year opportunity for corporate and individual affordable housing sponsors and donors to support APAH, celebrate affordable housing and recognize the contributions of APAH’s Affordable Housing Honorees.
